Always a challenge shooting at night - when to use a flash / when not to and keeping the mood just right (flash can wash everything out and kill the moment).  Also at an event like this - beware of revellers and protect your kit!!

Bulb setting pictures - night work

I love bulb setting photography - cars at night just look awesome.  Got inspired for this one from a similar picture seen on YouTube used as a backdrop for a music track.  I just remembered a location near to me which would do the honours, so pitched up and waited.  Done about 10 exposures - this being the best one.  Had a few focusing problems (it was dark!!), and it was FREEZING!! but all part of the fun, and its great to experiment - this lot only took me 20mins tops!  It features about 5 or 6 cars passing on both lanes.

Colour Popping

Quite like this technique - can work really well on certain images.  I just took a picture of the family cat - ‘Lily’ to try it out (not the best shot I admit, but she’s a real fidget!! - if she would have looked at me face-on to show both eyes in full view it would have been ideal!).  Hope you like it anyway.

Heres another example, which shows the technique to a much greater degree - this time much less subtle, but the composition contains only 2 real key elements to work effectively:

Focus Stacking - fors & againsts..

…….and… here are the results - after much deliberation!!….. - standard version first, followed by the stacked version below:

I think i’m sold - but the original with the blurring bokeh, does have a ‘real’ feel and slightly 3D quality.  What the stacked one gives is a real sense of seeing something how you could never normally see it - and for that I love it equally as much.

Best,

Shane

Sculthorpe Moor birding trip

Really privileged to have this gem on my doorstep, and best of all; its free! Run by volunteers at The Hawk and Owl Trust (sterling work guys!), if you’re local to the Fakenham area - GO THERE!! Went out for a quick trip on Sunday morning to see whats around - results below from the 90 minute visit of just some of the things I saw and without even having to look too hard!…. Enjoy and feel free to leave a comment: -

Any keen eyes out there can tell me if this is a Marsh or Willow Tit?
